Girls’ Generation to Attend 62nd ‘Kouhaku Uta Gassen’

Girls’ Generation has been invited to the 62nd edition of Japan’s New Year’s Eve music festival “Kouhaku Uta Gossen” (Red and White Song Battle). This years “Kouhaku” will have an extra special meaning to it as they will be celebrating the coming new year. It will also have an added theme of “Singing of Tomorrow” in wake of the terrible events that plagued Japan this year. The meaning of this theme is “to connect everyone through the strength of music,” and that “no matter the difficulty it can be overcome and tomorrow will arrive.” The short clip of Sooyoung speaking Japanese can be seen here:

Due to conflicting schedules, only Taeyeon, Jessica, Tiffany, Yuri, Sooyoung and Seohyun were able to attend the announcement event held by NHK. During the announcement Sooyoung had a chance to speak about the opportunity of attending this prestigious event, saying, “To be able to attend an event that has such a deep history like this for the first time, all the members are really honoured and happy.” Sooyoung also mentioned that they would like to put on a wonderful performance like their senior labelmates BoA and DBSK who have attended this event before.
This years “Kouhaku” will have the teams split by male and female, with males being on the White Team, and females are on the Red Team. Girls’ Generation will be a part of the Red Team, which is led by Inoue Mao. Also a part of the Red Team will be fellow Korean group KARA, who will also be appearing for the first time. However, they’ll be facing off against their labelmate and senior DBSK, who will be on the White Team. The winning team is decided by a combined system, with 10 judges judging the overall performance and an audience vote. Other performers that will be appearing at this years “Kouhaku” include Perfume, Hamasaki Ayumi, aiko, SMAP, Arashi, EXILE and many more.
This event will be broadcasted live on December 31, at 7:15pm JST.

Girls’ Generation’s Make-Up Most Popular Amongst Foreign Women

Girls’ Generation was recently chosen as the number one people whom foreign women want to learn make-up techniques from.
A “Global Beauty Class” special was recently recorded on OnStyle’s “Get It Beauty”. Stars’ hair and make-up know-hows that foreign women want to copy were revealed. During the show, fifty women from various countries such as Thailand, France, China, Morocco and the United States guest starred as “Better Girls”. They chose Girls’ Generation as the stars whose make-up techniques they want to learn from the most. They all agreed that a hairstyle that looks like that person just woke up and make-up that looks natural and not overdone were the prettiest.
The artist who is in charge of both Girls’ Generation and Brown Eyed Girls’ make-up appeared, and told the foreign women about natural make-up techniques that all nine Girls’ Generation members use while accomodating their own skin color and type. This episode of “Get It Beauty” will air on November 30th in the afternoon KST.

Girls’ Generation Reveals Christmas Visuals for J.Estina

After showing their power in Asia, Europe, and the United States, Girls’ Generation members have revealed Christmas visuals that put emphasis on each of their personalities.
Wearing vividly colored skirts matched with spangled bags, the members showed a lovely image for J.Estina’s advertisement. The bag chosen for this Christmas visual is a backpack from the “Angelica” line, which Hyoyeon had chosen in a previously aired CF.
The Angelica mini shoulder bag chosen has shiny spangles, which show a natural two-tone depending on what direction light touches the spangles. The shoulder bag’s design was influenced by shining tiaras, which give a mysterious feel depending on the angles they are viewed from.
Song Jiwon, of the J.estina brand strategic team, stated, “After Girls’ Generation’s previous visual advertisement, customers have been asking about the products and we even had reserved sales. We are looking forward to what type of effect Girls’ Generation’s Christmas visual advertisement will have.”
The Christmas bag Girls’ Generation chose can be found in J.Estina stores in December.

Girls’ Generation Wins Best Female Group and Artist of the Year at 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards(video)

Girls’ Generation Wins Best Female Group and Artist of the Year at 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards

Girls’ Generation received the Best Female Group Award and Artist of the Year Award at the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards, held on November 29th in Singapore.
The award show, broadcasted live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium, included a red carpet event in which Girls’ Generation donned dazzling dresses and stunned viewers worldwide. Twitter users immediately responded, as “Omg SNSD” and “Girls Generation” quickly trended worldwide.

The award show also featured performances from many K-Pop artists, as well as artists from all over Asia. Girls’ Generation delivered an epic performance consisting of a “Girls become the Goddess” stage, as well as a remix of “The Boys” containing both English and Korean lyrics. The members displayed a powerful opening dance during the “Girls become the Goddess” stage, while demonstrating a lengthy dance break and their vocal talents during “The Boys”. The white dance outfits, the extended choreography, and fast paced remix caused widespread excitement among both fans attending the event and viewers worldwide. In addition, Girls’ Generation also attended a press conference before the award show. They expressed their excitement at being able to perform at MAMA in front of their Singaporean fans and answered several questions presented by journalists from several different countries. The questions ranged from subjects such as their concert tour, producing more tracks in English, and even how long it takes to get their hair and makeup ready for performances. Perhaps most importantly, when asked how they envision themselves in five years and whether or not they would still be in the industry, Tiffany answered “I think we’ll all still be together, definitely still in the industry. We’re not going anywhere”.
With both the Best Female Group Award and Artist of the Year Award, Girls’ Generation once again has shown their incredible popularity and musical talent. Congratulations to Girls’ Generation! Check out the red carpet appearance, amazing performance, acceptance speeches, and press conference below.

tidbits from Girls Generation star life theater

Yuri, who is known for her workout regimen, including her habit of doing 600 sit-ups every day, once again had her physical training featured, this time on KBS2′s “Star Life Theater” on November 24th. A member of the gym Girls Fitness, Yuri was shown going there after hours due to her schedule. She commented that during Girls’ Generation’s Japan Arena Tour over the summer, breathing inside the hot venues was difficult, but she was able to handle it because of her training.
The episode on the 24th also showed scenes of the girls participating in a fansigning event.
The girls have also attracted attention with their full gluttony despite their perfect figures.
In the episode broadcast on November 23rd, the girls revealed their easygoing daily lives outside the TV screen.
On this day, the girls cheered at the sight of food bought by one of the staff while preparing for a music program in the green room. They replenished their energies by eating enthusiastically, and showed a vigorous desire for food.
The members said, “There’s always a buffet in Girls’ Generation’s green room. The manager oppas work really hard.” At this, the VJ asked if they go on diets. The girls replied, “No we don’t. If we think that we gained weight, we just control what we eat, but we need to eat to work.” With this, they showed a free and easy attitude.
On the other hand, Tiffany attracted attention by practicing very hard for her first musical. She received many favorable comments from viewers after this episode revealed her practicing for her upcoming musical for 12 hours a day, in addition to working earnestly as a singer.
Tiffany also spoke of her drifting relationship with her father, as she tearfully shared some of the difficulties she has had.
Through the show, she admitted that she has become distant with her father ever since she went to Korea to be a singer. Tiffany said, “I was sixteen years old eight years ago when I first came to Korea. I was at the peak of my wandering adolescent age, and it was two years after my mother passed away.”

Tiffany mentioned how she came to choose this career path. “During that adolescent period of my life, music was the only thing that made me happy.” However, her father was opposed to Tiffany becoming a singer. On this, Tiffany said, “In honesty, my relationship with my father drifted a lot while I’ve been working as a singer. It’s been a long time since we’ve talked, and now that I think about it, I have never spent much time with him at all,” and spilled the tears she was trying to fight back.
Tiffany kept wiping her tears as she said, “It’s been almost eight years since I came here and…it’s upsetting.”
Also on the 23rd, Hyoyeon showed her professionalism and her maturity. Hyoyeon was recently chosen as a fixed cast member on KBS2’s “Invincible Youth 2″ along with Sunny. Perhaps because of the nerves that came with filming the second episode (Editor’s Note: the article says first episode), she was having such a rough time that she even skipped lunch. However, she said in front of the production crew, “I don’t think it’s indigestion,” and put on a bit of a smile.
Before going back to filming, Boom cheered her up by saying, “Don’t be sick,” and also encouraged her. He said, “Hyoyeon has something strong in her heart. I respect and admire that about her. I’m just expressing as a fan my respect for her when I see her overcome difficulties while being active in Girls’ Generation and constantly improving herself in every album.”
The cast then went to the mud flats where Hyoyeon tried her best and did not hold herself back even though she was not feeling well, showing how passionate she is.
When Hyoyeon was interviewed, she expressed her intentions and once again showed her professionalism when she replied, “How can you always be clean when you work? When I’m on stage like for Music Bank, I strive for perfection because I have to show the best I can be as a singer. But right now, I’m here to work so all I can do is think positively and put in my best effort.”

Like Twins: Taeyeon and Sunny’s Interview with Singles Magazine

We asked Taeyeon and Sunny, who are known to be closer than no other from living as roommates for a long time, to show us something denser than love; their friendship. They must have been shy about this type of set-up, and were looking after one another a lot off camera.

The Republic of Korea’s national treasure-like girl group, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and Sunny have arrived at the studio after completing their last television schedule. Taeyeon wore skinny pants with a light knit and flat shoes, while Sunny wore jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. Unless you look really hard, they would have looked like fresh high school students. It’s true that they were a bit tired and sensitive these days, as it was right before the release of their official album. However, they greeted the staff members first by saying, “It’s really nice to meet you!” and also showed their characteristic “euhehehe” laugh. As roommates, Taeyeon and Sunny are two members who are known for having a tight friendship within Girls’ Generation. Their looking after one another continued on during their stay in the studio. While they were eating, the two sat together as if they were high school students sharing their meals. After eating, the two disappeared for a moment and soon walked out from the bathroom, giggling while shaking the water from their toothbrushes. They also walked so energetically! When they were walking to the makeup rooms they looked like generals returning from a victory. They looked trustworthy and cute, making me laugh inside. Despite their petite sizes, the two members have pretty good proportions. After about an hour, they stood in front of the camera wearing one-pieces, and had their hair and makeup done to make them look like twins. The two looked pretty and lovely like dolls, making the staff members go “Wow”. This type of situation must have been awkward and embarrassing for them, and they looked at one another’s transformation, saying “Whoa~”, while touching each other’s clothes, displaying a heartwarming sight. The shoot ended smoothly, and because of the time, the interview was started right away. While they could have laid against the soft sofa to rest, the two had their backs straight, not showing a hint of dishevelment. More than just worrying about watchful eyes, it seems it was because of the members having lived as idols for many years. When told, “Lean back comfortably against the sofa,” they just replied, “Oh my, I must be more nervous than I thought? Hehehe.” The interview finally started, “How does it feel living as a Girls’ Generation member?” The two members were surprised at the groundless question and passed it over with a laugh, but the awkwardness ended there. To the editor’s advice, “Everyone~ Right now is the best moment, you have to enjoy it to the fullest!” They replied, “I know what you mean! I need to put on the makeup I like and go out to experience my popularity, hahaha,” and slapped their knees. Soon, Taeyeon and Sunny became the stars of the interview. They would giggle at times while they would clap and yell “That’s right! That’s right!” at the other’s response. Their natural gestures were evidence enough that they were enjoying their time right now.

Taeyeon, Sunny! The teaser for the long awaited official album has been gaining lots of attention. With the album release coming up, how do you feel?

-Taeyeon:
Half of me wonders what people will think of our album, while the other half of me is worried. There should be responses out by the time this interview is published right? I’m nervous. It’s our first album in a year, and because it’s an album that Korean fans have been waiting for such a long time, I think the interest for it will be just as great. To be honest, we didn’t have any time to rest, having started Japan promotions right after our promotions in Korea ended, but our hiatus will be felt greatly by Korean fans.

-Sunny:
Girls’ Generation has shown girly, lovely images a lot, but this time we’re planning on showing more diverse images. I think we’ll be able to show various images of a cool girl with our singing and style. It’s now fall. Does the change of seasons affect the girls?

-Taeyeon:
A lot, hahaha. That’s why I’ve been feeling a bit sentimental lately. I start listening to music late into the night and fall asleep wearing my earphones. I also cry while listening to music. I try to search for many different artists’ music, but I’ve been listening to a lot of J-Pop lately.

-Sunny:
I don’t think it affects me too much. I think “I” affect myself the most, hahaha. But, as it is autumn, I listen to ballads like Taeyeon.

Out of Girls’ Generation’s members, Taeyeon and Sunny have been roommates for a long time. It seems like the two of you are becoming alike. Do you realize it, too?
-Taeyeon: I think Sunny and I were able to be roommates for so long because of our similar styles. Our mindset of making one another feel comfortable, and if the other person is comfortable then I’m good, is similar. If the other person is comfortable, then I would bear with my uncomfortablness. Because we are considerate of one another, we were able to live without any trouble. I don’t like red bean while Sunny does, so we can share boongeobbang (bread in the shape of a fish with a red bean filling), and Sunny likes curry, while I don’t, so we don’t even fight over food.

-Sunny:
I don’t know the reason, but I think we just get along. I think we’re completely used to one another and are becoming alike after having eaten, slept, and lived together for such a long time.
What do you do when something doesn’t go your way? I imagine you have some know-how’s now.
-Taeyeon: Other than self control, there isn’t any other method. Before, I wouldn’t express anything to members and keep things to myself, but now I try to talk things out with my members and managers. I think the best way to work things out for girls is through chatting.

-Sunny:
I think I have a cold personality. When I look at myself, I see a lot more flaws. If I’m in a bad mood, I feel like I’d become pessimistic, so I go into a fan site that only looks at me positively on purpose. Because it’s a place where fans even look at the flaws I see as something good.

Tell me any of your beauty tips. Taking care of your skin, weight, or your role model is good, too.
-Taeyeon: It’s best to treat a blemish as soon as you see it. However, if I’m busy, I can’t find time to do that, so I’m sad. At home, I use facial packs to provide moisture every morning and evening. I recently promoted for a long time with short hair, but I’m trying to grow it out now. I want to match the autumn mood and grow my hair out, hahaha. I’ve been interested in Gemma Ward’s, a model known for her baby face, style lately, and I have been paying close attention. Her style is clean and nice.

-Sunny:
Resting and not doing anything is the best way to take care of your body and skin. The treatment is not wearing any makeup and not giving your body a hard time. If I don’t have anything special going on, I don’t wear any makeup and go around wearing comfortable clothes. My mom once nagged at me because of that, hahaha. For styles, I study magazines and reviews consistently. If I find something I like, I save the photo and apply it. Unlike Taeyeon, I’ve been wanting to break out of my long hair lately. In order to show different styles, I’ve gotten perms and dyed my hair, so my hair is really damaged. I really want to try short hair because I’ve had long hair for such a long time.
Are there times where you think you look particularly pretty?
-Taeyeon: I think I look the best and natural before I sleep? Hohoho.

-Sunny:
Hm? When was it? I don’t think it’s when I clean off my makeup… Hahaha! I’m not sure. People always say my energetic appearance is cute.

What do you do during your alone time, or when you’re with your members?
-Taeyeon: I think not going out has become a habit. But, I go out when I really want to every now and then. When my purchase desire is at its peak, that’s when the splurge god appears, hahaha. I’m most interested in makeup and shoes. Sometimes I’ll go out alone to buy makeup or shoes from the mall. I usually browse trends and new products online, and use that information when I go shopping. I put on the makeup I bought when I get bored. I see if the color applies well, what color suits me, clean it off, and repeat, hahaha. I usually use the VOD service to watch TV shows at home.

-Sunny:
Playing with our members is more fun, and we have figured out many ways to have fun by ourselves. Because the majority of our members have their drivers license, we drive out to the Han River or go to the nail shop. I remember one time where Hyoyeon and I drove the car out to the river and struggled because we couldn’t park. There are so many people at the river! During my free time, I watch a lot of TV, but I watch the movie channel a lot. Because the VOD service has been improved lately, I am able to watch all the movies I want. We gather around to watch something, but there are lots of times where there isn’t anything to watch because we already have watched everything.
How does it feel living as a member of Girls’ Generation in the [Republic of] Korea?
-Taeyeon: Of course it’s nice and an honor, but it’s also a bit burdensome because there are so many watchful eyes. But it’s also true that we aren’t sure of just how popular we are because once we get off stage, all our time is spent together with the members. It’s only to the degree of thinking “This is how popular we are” when we see banners and hear fans’ cheers. I need to pretty myself up with the makeup I like and go out to enjoy myself. It’s a bit sad that I have to feel satisfied looking at myself in the mirror at home.

-Sunny:
There’s not a great sense of reality regarding our popularity because we don’t use Twitter or have mini homepages. It’s to the point where we say, “Hey, Soshi’s number one.” Of course, we are able to feel the love and attention from fans through concerts or other performances and events. I’m always thankful of everyone’s attention and think of them as the strength I need to do what I like to do. Although I can’t feel 100% of it, I try not to forget their love.

From a girl to a woman. Are there times where you feel you’ve really matured?

-Taeyeon: I feel like I’ve matured when I have more self control than before. At times like that, I think “I’ve grown a lot”, and feel good about myself. Before, if there was something I did not like, I would hold in all my anger and cry in the car. Because my makeup can’t get erased, I would do so while wiping off the tears with a tissue, heukheukheuk. Then I would forget it, but now I’ve learned to look past most things.

-Sunny:
I feel proud of myself when I do things aggressively/enthusiastically. Things I do under my own initiative have increased, as opposed to doing things people tell me to do. I don’t get pulled around by other people’s suggestions, and have become my own man. Even when choosing a concept, I suggest my opinions enthusiastically, and know when I should just follow as well. Is there a different area that you want to attempt? If there is, what, how, and when would you want to try it?
-Taeyeon: Hm… Something I consistently want to do is composing. Along with that, I want to sing, play an instrument, and properly do music. I also want to DJ again.

-Sunny:
I want to do a lot of various broadcast programs. Aside from that, I like creating new things, so I want to try producing. I realized this while preparing my concert performance, but it’s really fun creating my own stage and directing it. I didn’t have any time and didn’t know anything before, but I’ve been looking for music and taking part in directing myself and have found a new enjoyment. If you can’t balance the real world and imagination, you could get stressed out, but if you can control that, it’s a really fun job.
Lastly, is there anything you want to say to <Singles> readers who like Girls’ Generation?
-Taeyeon: I wonder what reader unnies like? Hahaha. Do us dongsaengs/younger sisters appear more cheerful and energetic for unnies to enjoy? Hahaha. Please look forward to us in the future.

-Sunny:
I think unnies will really like the image we will show for our upcoming promotions. A cool Girls’ Generation? A cool feel? Anyway, I think we’ll be able to show a new image of Girls’ Generation, so please look out for us.

The College Life of Yuri, Sooyoung and Seohyun Is Revealed on ‘Star Life Theater’

The college life of Yuri and Sooyoung was revealed on the show “Star Life Theater” that was broadcasted on November 21st on KBS2TV. Yuri and Sooyoung, who both major in Theatre and Film at Chungang University, were captured on screen as normal college students. Scenes of them eating their meals inside a moving vehicle due to their particularly busy schedule, and them attending lectures and taking notes have attracted many peoples’ attentions. On the day of filming, they had confessed that, “I want to be like any other normal student who studies. When I don’t have classes, I want to walk around the school without any thoughts and get something to eat on the way”, and “We want to do the same things that regular students do at our age”.
On the other hand, the college life of Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun was also revealed in the show.

Girls’ Generation’s maknae, who is a sophomore majoring in Theater at Dongkook University, dropped the stage name to return to being called Seo Joohyun; an ordinary college student.
As she goes off trying her best not to miss a class, Seohyun shows off her fresh charms as she replaces her usually elegant and chic attire for a more casual look.  Complimenting her laid-back outfit, she talks with an easy-going attitude as she is seen talking informally with her peers, which is quite unusual to hear, as she speaks formally when conversing with the other Girls’ Generation members.
Her complaint asking “Did you buy our album?” to a male classmate who had asked about girl group 2NE1′s new album, as well as continuous chatting with her classmates, produced a fun and vibrant lunch time that caught others’ eyes.
Meanwhile, Professor Shin Yeonsup of the Theater Department of Dongkook University praised Seohyun saying, “Seohyun has a much bigger desire for higher education when compared to her peers.  She has a serious attitude”, as well as, “Her attitude on learning is so honest that it’s even old-fashioned. I think she believes that school takes a higher precedence over entertainment activities. I am proud.”

Girls Generation new shake app topping charts

Girls’ Generation’s SHAKE application was released through iTunes on November 18th, 2011. Not only are the girls displaying their popularity on stage, they have now moved on to conquer the gaming world.
SHAKE has risen to the number one spot in the music game category on Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan iTunes. It ranked first on the Apple App Store in Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore while ranking fifth in Japan’s. It was also ranked high on the American, Australian, and Canadian charts as well.

Girls Generation appears at woongjin coway concert event

As the models for Woongjin Coway, Girls’ Generation attended an event held by Coway called “Coway, Please Take Care of Mom Tonight” on November 17th at Yangjaedong L Tower. Appearing alongside Girls’ Generation were Jang Hyejin and Kim Bumsoo, who handed out a few roses to people in the crowd. Girls’ Generation performed a few of their hit songs which included “Gee”, “Oh”, “Genie”, and their most recent single “The Boys”. However, during their performance of “The Boys”, the girls weren’t able to hold their laughter as the static electricity inside the building caused their hair to stick out all over the place. The girls could be seen trying to push down their hair, but to no avail. In particular, there were several pictures of Sunny’s hair sticking up wildly while Taeyeon desperately tried to hold in her laughter and continue performing. While Taeyeon did manage to sing all of her parts, she did not manage to dance all of the choreography.

During this event some of the people were able to share stories of their mothers with Girls’ Generation, which caused several members to tear up as they remembered their own families. A small interview was also held in which attendees got to ask the girls questions. Kim Shinyoung, a long time friend of the girls, was the emcee for this interview. One of the questions asked about the girls’ cooking abilities. Sooyoung replied that most of the girls cook pretty well with the exception of Jessica. Yoona added that Jessica is an ok cook, but she can’t control her portions well, to which Jessica responded, “I’m generous cook.” causing much laughter at the event. The next question asked was: “What can you cook the best?”. Tiffany said that she could make sandwiches the best. However, being the “shikshin” of the group, Sooyoung had a different opinion stating that, “Tiffany’s sandwiches aren’t really sandwiches. Normally you would add vegetables, ham, and cheese, but she only adds ham,” much to Tiffany’s chagrin. Another question that was asked was: “Who dreams the biggest?”, to which everyone unanimously picked Seohyun. Yoona mentioned how Seohyun would always think about the future, and Seohyun would go on to explain how she’s accomplishing a lot of goals through Girls’ Generation and K-Pop. To end the “Coway, Please Take Care of Mom Tonight” event, the girls sang “Dear Mom” and dedicated it to all mothers.

Infinite also likes Taeyeon

It was reported earlier by Soshified (here) that Taeyeon’s favorite male group recently was INFINITE, which she revealed on November 7th during the recording of “SBS Power FM Power Time with Choi Hwajung”.
However, it seems that those feelings are reciprocated. On November 19th, during the filming of KBS’s “Birth of a Family”, Infinite’s dorm room was inspected while they were gone, and they found out that one of the members of INFINITE had a picture of Taeyeon on his bed.
As soon as the broadcast had finished, it became a huge topic among netizens, some even made comments like, “he must really like Taeyeon.”, or “I’m envious of Taeyeon!” and “Which boy has Taeyeon’s picture?”.

Girls Generation to mentor troubled boys on their new show

Girls’ Generation will become mentors for boys. On November 22nd, JTBC revealed that Girls’ Generation will be appearing on the weekend variety show “Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys”.
“Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys” will have the group becoming mentors for stubborn troublemakers. It is a dream project, where they will be solving each of their problems.
“Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys” will have five troublesome boys from different areas around the country dorming together. The program will be a reality show, showing how they change every day through training.
JTBC revealed, “Amidst their busy schedule after their comeback with ‘The Boys’, Girls’ Generation is looking forward to their first attempt at becoming mentors. The girls have been approaching this seriously, as it is a meaningful project to help wandering teenagers start anew. A new side of Girls’ Generation that has not been seen on any other variety show will be revealed.”

The girls caught everyone’s attention with a brand new style for their goodbye performance. They took on a black and white look with ties that gave the feel of sexy waitresses.
Fans commented immediately about how different and cool the girls’ outfits were. They have had a different look almost every performance.
Check out the goodbye performance of “The Boys” below.

Seohyun University life to be shown on star life theatre

The everyday campus life of Girls’ Generation’s maknae, Seohyun, has been revealed recently.
On the episode of KBS2′s “Star Life Theatre” which will air on November 21st, Seohyun’s university life was filmed. Not only were her friends and acquaintances shown on the show, but her passion for her studies was also shown.
Seohyun has always been known for her strong will and her perseverence that gives her the “must-start-what-you-finish” attitude. According to her professor on this show, Seohyun said during a counseling session, “Even if I get an F and I’m placed under academic probation, I will always work hard to attend school,” showing her strong will.

Going in-depth into Girls Generation new variety show

JTBC has sent a signal that it is building itself as the “variety empire”. Five variety shows are currently being prepared to air upon the debut of this channel. Girl group Girls’ Generation, who is leading the hallyu storm; “number one pair in variety” Lee Soogeun and Kim Byungman; and other prominent casts who are to be included in these variety shows are attracting attention. The production crew is also to be made of the leaders in the broadcasting industry. Joo Chulhwan PD, who led the “golden days” of variety in the 1980′s and 1990′s, will be the organizing director, and Star-PD Kim Shigyu, who directed KBS’s “Happy Together” and “Dream Team”, is to be a variety show director. Also, other A-list PD’s such as Joo Chulhwan and Kim Sukyoon, who are the most expensive variety show directors, will be strong supporters on the team. As JTBC is expected to shake up the broadcasting industry, we looked into the main variety shows that it will air.
◇”Girls’ Generation” (Working Title)
Director: Yoon Hyunjoon
Cast: Yoona, Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Taeyeon, Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny, Seohyun
Broadcast Date/Time: Sundays 7:30pm-8:40pm (70 minutes)
A “real variety” show with Girls’ Generation’s name. It has become a topic of interest as soon as it was revealed that all nine members would be cast to lead their own show. Even the time that it will be broadcasted is shocking. It is to air during Sunday evening primetime, overlapping in time with dramas and variety shows from broadcast TV networks. This will be the main program of the variety channel JTBC. Yoon Hyunjoon PD has been appointed the director of this show. He is known for having made many KBS shows outstanding, such as “Win Win”, “Sang Sang Plus”, “Music Bank”, and others.
Actually, this will not be the first time every member of Girls’ Generation has led a variety show. In 2009, all nine members of Girls’ Generation were in the main cast of MBC’s “Our Sunday Night – Girls’ Generation’s Horror Movie Factory”. In 2008, they appeared on cable channel Mnet’s “Girls’ Generation’s Factory Girl”. However, “Horror Movie Factory” ended early after just six weeks amidst criticism of having a boring show format, and “Factory Girl” did not receive much attention. The important thing to note though was that Girls’ Generation was not the cause of the failure. The problem was that besides having the idea that Girls’ Generation would be the central characters, the concepts of the two shows were not thought through very well.
On that topic, there is word from show representatives that this new show “Girls’ Generation” will be on a different level. The format of the show has been made so that it is certain it will grab the interest of viewers, making it worthy of the curiosity it has been stirring. Also, Girls’ Generation is garnering more attention than they have in the past, so they clearly have a competitive edge. Yoon Hyunjoon PD, who in charge of directing this new show, explained, “I can’t reveal much about the concept of this show, but one thing I can say for sure is that the planned project is something that has never been attempted before in the broadcasting industry.” He also added, “Through this show, a new side of Girls’ Generation will be revealed.” He continued, “This show is not going to be just simply about fun, but it will be meaningful as well, so the Girls’ Generation members are participating with nervous and excited hearts.” YHJ PD evoked more curiosity by refusing to share more specifics as “it’s still a secret”.

Girls’ Generation Says Goodbye on M!Countdown

Though Yoona was absent due to filming her drama, Girls’ Generation gave a passionate performance as they closed out their long awaited return on M!Countdown.

Hyoyeon becomes an octopus catcher in the mud on “Invincible Youth 2″

After garnering much attention through the first episode of “Invincible Youth 2″ by eating live nakji/small octopus, Hyoyeon made way for the mud flat herself to catch them. This week, G8 members and the uncles will be heading to the mud flat to catch small octopuses themselves. This was G8 members’ first time out on a mud flat and catching octopus, but they were amazed by life in the fishing village and fearlessly jumped into it.
Hyoyeon, who was having fun with the simple fact that it was her first time at a mud flat, was absorbed in catching octopus and showed her strong will to catch them all.
After sticking her hand into the mud, Hyoyeon fussed about having caught one. She didn’t lose her grip and pulled hard at the legs, determined to get it from the mud. However, she gripped and pulled on the legs so hard that she only managed to get one leg, causing everyone to burst into laughter.
Also, in order to catch the octopus, she got mud all over her clothes, hair and face.
Hyoyeon gained a taste for live octopus in the first episode last week. She can be seen rinsing nakji she caught in the seawater and eating it on the spot. She also fed it to other G8 members, showing how she completely adjusted to life in a fishing village. Also, to win the bait to catch octopus, a race was held. She didn’t spare her body and fell in the mud, creating much laughter.
Be sure to check out Hyoyeon and the rest of G8 on the next episode of KBS2TV “Invincible Youth 2″ airing on November 19th at 11:05pm KST.

Girls Generation Yoona talks about her new nickname

Girls’ Generation’s Yoona guest starred on an episode of SBS’s “Strong Heart”, where she talked about a startling moment during a performance in Japan.
During this broadcast Yoona confessed, “Through 2PM’s shirt ripping performance, the nickname ‘Jjit-Taecyeon’ was created and garnered attention. Similar to that, I also became ‘Jjit-Yoona’.” The way Yoona gained the nickname “Jjit-Yoona” was due to something that happened while Girls’ Generation was promoting in Japan.
Yoona stated, “While I was putting on a dance performance at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, my clothes ripped in an embarrassing place, and left me extremely flustered.”
How Yoona handled that embarrassing situation in front of all the Japanese fans will be revealed through today’s episode of “Strong Heart”.
TL note: “Jjit-Yoona” is translated as “ripped-Yoona” because of a wardrobe malfunction.

Jessica, She’s a Kind Princess, Not an Ice Princess

Girls’ Generation’s Jessica has caught the attention of many for being kind towards fans.
On the 14th of November, Jessica was at the airport in a dark grey shirt with a cardigan and jeans, and her casual outfit showed that she is as human as everyone else. However, what fans have been praising her for is that when fans recognised and surrounded her with cameras, Jessica did not get irritated, but responded by smiling and taking photos with them. In the photos, she held up a peace sign naturally and smiled, making her all the more lovable.
After photos of her kind gesture started circulating on various online communities, Netizens have been praising her by saying, “She’s as kind as she is pretty.” Other comments included, “Jessica’s manners are the best!”, “I thought she was an ice princess but she seems so friendly with the fans.” and “She shines even with those clothes. I’m so envious.”
Jessica is definitely ridding her image of “Ice Princess” and replacing it with a warm hearted, “Kind Princess.”

On November 7th, Girls’ Generation who achieved the number one spot after releasing their third album “The Boys”, appeared on “SBS Power FM Power Time with Choi Hwajung” and had a very casual and honest talk.
During the radio, DJ Choi Hwajung asked them, “It has been a while since you last made a comeback, so do a lot of new groups have difficulty in approaching you?” In response to this Girls’ Generation said, “Honestly, many new groups feel uncomfortable being around us and they always make a 90-degree bow.”
DJ Choi also asked, “Then how about just accepting their bows in a friendly manner?” Sunny replied very humbly, “Actually, its only been 4 years since we’ve debuted and so it’s more appropriate to bow back to them in an equal fashion instead of accepting their bows.”
In addition, DJ Choi asked Girls’ Generation, “Who is your favourite male junior recently?” Taeyeon said, “I really like Infintite. It’s good to see them and they’re always working hard.” After which, DJ Choi followed up the question with  ”Who is your second favourite?” and Taeyeon wittily responded, “Can I say Infinite again?”.
